Taken 3 is anything but a continuation of the original Taken films. With Taken and Taken 2, the films were very much the first and second act in a continuing story. Taken 3 actually has very little to do with Brian’s (Played by Neeson) family.

“It’s different, but it’s very good. It’s probably the best of the three for me, in terms of the script. The first one was really not pretentious. It was a small film. We were surprised by the success of it because it was honest. Liam [Neeson] was not a super kick-ass actor.”

The first two Taken movies focused entirely on Liam’s family being kidnapped. But Co-writer Luc Besson was quick to point out that the surprise success of the original Taken film is whats allowed them to evolve the story the way they have.

Taken 3 began shooting this week in LA, and unlike part 1 and 2, the third film is completely independent. It is centered around Liam of course, but is a story which is unrelated to that of the first two movies.

Taken veteren director Olivier Megaton has indeed returned to direct the third film, and fans will be pleased to learn that both Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen are set to reprise their original roles.

New additions to the cast include Forest Whitaker and Jonny Weston.
